Frederick Wilfert American Folk Music

Biography

I’m originally from Brooklyn New York. I currently reside in Springfield Virginia. Songwriting is my passion and I like sharing my music with everyone.

I was born and raised in the Flatbush Section of Brooklyn New York. At the age of five, after pleading with my parents to stay up late and watch the Ed Sullivan show, I was given permission. There was a new band from England called The Beatles and everyone was excited to see the show including my two older sisters.

The show started and everyone was amazed and screaming, except for me, l was focused on one member of the band. I’ve never seen or heard anything like this before. Remember, I’m only five.

When the show ended I ran upstairs and told my father that I want to play guitar like John Lennon from The Beatles. Three days later he came home with a guitar, a case, some picks and an illustrated chord book. I learned all the chords and all the songs in one week.

I started writing songs at a very young age. None were very good. In fact, they were terrible. So, my mother, a singer and piano player, taught me a lot about music. When I gathered up some money I ran to the music store and purchased a Beatles song on sheet music. This was a familiar occurrence whenever I had some money. The music of The Beatles were my musical training.

As the years passed my song writing became a lot better and I have The Beatles, especially, John Lennon, to thank.
